...8.28.11...

each blade of grass has its spot on earth whence it draws its life,
its strength;
and so is man rooted to the land from which he draws his faith together with his life.
~joseph conrad

earth and sky,
 woods and fields,
lakes and rivers,
the mountain and the sea,
are excellent schoolmasters,
and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.
~john lubbock
small delights in my yard today.
that caught my eye when i was looking the other way.
and made my heart smile.

and this,
 our life,
 exempt from public haunt,
finds tongues in trees,
 books in the running brooks,
sermons in stones,
and good in everything.
~william shakespears

perfect 4 part harmony
of the crickets,
of the water fountain,
of the chickadee,
of the sandhill cranes
flying in sync,
as their voices trumpet
and echo through the hardwoods.
and at that moment.
all is well.
with my soul.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.

...in silent cascades...

The sun disappears under a blanket of clouded hues
Stars begin to shine, like scattered fireflies,
Against the deep blanket of night
All is calm...

Nestled safe in your arms
A sense of quiet peace surrounds us
The moon rises and glows in silent cascades
Gently the breeze sweeps us away, to thoughts of serenity

Warm and safe, we linger in thought
Smell the sweet scent of dew
Back and forth we still sway
Through the creaking of boards, I drift off to dreams

Reminiscing...
That moment is transfixed in my mind
Untarnished by the changing years
The chair worn, but still here

Feeling your spirit surround me
Brings back memories...
You and I in the open air,
On the rocking chair that outlasted time
~susie e

i love my
rocking chair.
the years it has seen.
the calm,
it has provided.
it is very patient.
waiting for me to come sit awhile.
and it always feels like
i never left.

...8.21.11...

"With a few flowers in my garden,
half a dozen pictures and some books,
I live without envy."
-  Lope de Vega

"gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
it turns what we have into enough, and more.
 it turns denial into acceptance,
 chaos to order,
confusion to clarity.
it can turn a meal into a feast,
a house into a home,
a stranger into a friend.
gratitude makes sense of our past,
 brings peace for today,
and creates a vision for tomorrow."
-  melody beattie
stepping around the yard.
to capture this season of life.
as raindrops started to fall.
could i be happier?
probably not.
take your moment.
may your blessings flow.
welcome to coffee hour.

...everybody's gotta start at nothing...

...sometimes nothing is everything...
~brent james -album: moment of silence

infinite riches
are all around you
if you will open up your mental eyes
and behold the treasure house of infinity within you.
there is a gold mine within you
from which you can extract everything
you need to live life
gloriously,
joyously,
and abundantly.
~joseph murphy

...8.14.11...

edkhart tolle has described,
in the power of now,
how women tend to be closer
to enlightenment than men.
that's why the Tao is described by lao tzu in female terms,
as "infinite, eternally present,
the mother of the universe."
masculine "mind energy" is hard and focused;
feminine "being energy" is soft and inclusive.
men who find their hidden reserves
of being energy will find that new pathways
open up inside themselves.
women who let their "being energy"
pour forth unhindered,
without trying to emulate male focus,
will blossom into their true,
questing selves.
~1,001 ways to live in the moment
"being energy"
"be" ing energy.
just focusing on the "being".
"being" happy.
"being" content with a simple life.
my life.
is my spirituality.
my life.
is my family.
my life.
is my work.
that is my life.
my "being"
i am here.
to enjoy my "being"
don't try to complicate any of those areas.
you will try.
but i will stand firmly.
because my focus is simply.
just "being"
i control me.
i control how i react.
i choose.
being.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.

...bursts forth from the soul...

"laughter is the shock absorber that eases the blows of life"

"a smile starts on the lips,
a grin spreads to the eyes,
a chuckle comes from the belly;
but a good laugh
bursts forth from the soul,
overflows,
and bubbles all around"
Carolyn Birmingham

...8.7.11...

" I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve."
from Stand By Me

Matthew's thirteenth birthday. Air soft with his buddies. Off on an adventure.

my point is,
there are a lot of people in the world.
no one ever sees everything the same
way you do;
it just doesn't happen.
so when you find one person who gets a couple of things,
especially if they're important ones...
you might as well hold on to them.
you know?"
— Sarah Dessen

treasuring these times.

..."a wave that rolls you over as you're ready to drown"...

from this bench.
lichened and worn.
it has seen much life.
it has heard much laughter.
it has seen much sadness.
it hears whispers of healing.
it waits for someone to sit upon.
it's curved weathered boards.
to sit.
and dream.
to smile.
and remember.

evening shadows.
are probably my favorite.
you can choose your favorite there.
