...2.27.11...

without continual growth and progress,
such words as improvement,
achievement,
and success have no meaning.
- Benjamin Franklin

parent's night.
her final basketball games are winding down.

coffee in the same spot as last week...
change?
indeed.
most people can look back over the years
and identify a time and place
at which their lives changed significantly.
whether by accident or design,
these are the moments when,
because of a readiness within us
and a collaboration with events occurring around us,
we are forced to seriously reappraise ourselves
and the conditions under which we live
and to make certain choices
that will affect the rest of our lives.
- Frederick F. Flack

she has crossed
another milestone.
and she gently took us by the hand.
and we went with her.
she is strong.
she is confident.
she is beautiful.
her spirit shines in everything she does.
don't cry because it's over...
smile because it was.
here's to what is to come.
as it is suppose to be.
and when it's time for her
to let go and fly.
we will proudly do so.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.

...a drop in the ocean....

we ourselves feel that
what we are doing
is just a drop in the ocean.
but the ocean
would be less
because of that missing drop.

...2.20.11...

the old woman i shall become
 will be quite different
from the woman i am now.
another i is beginning.
~george sand

there is a certain relief in change,
even though it be from bad to worse;
as I have found in traveling in a stagecoach,
it is often a comfort to shift one's position
and be bruised in a new place.
~washington irving

there was a
change in the air
this morning
while i was outside.
it looked as
tho it could
rain.
tho it is a wee bit cold for that.
and now
it is just overcast.
possibly snow today.
change.
it will be coming.
the birds feel it.
the ground shows it.
the sky is different.
and so are people's moods.
change is coming.
welcome to coffee hour.
welcome to this Sunday morning.
just BE.

...of strength and courage...

coming to terms with reality
involves stripping ourselves of comforting delusions.
many people who try to
confront life's difficult truths
get scared and fail in the attempt.
you won't gain self-knowledge
without drawing upon your reserves of
strength and courage.
don't run away:
the rewards of standing
your ground
will be riches beyond measure-
true happiness,
true peace,
true love.
~1,001 ways to live in the moment

it has been a week of:

for shadow shot Sunday.

...2.13.11...

i've been watching the sun hit these drifts...
i walked thru the snow for this picture.

coffee hour this time last year.
i was so inspired this week by a couple
of gals posts.
one about not looking back over what was lost.
but being content with what is now.
and one about time as an abstract concept.
that we are always trying to chase time, or stop time.
and about observation.
that we don't spend enough "time"
using all our senses in observation.
i just wanted to shout YES after reading their posts.
i have to make a conscious effort.
every day.
to just BE.
it would be so easy to do
if i could just enclose myself
in a bubble.
just BE.
with no bombardment from the outside
world the moment i step out into it.
just BE.
no negative.
no words that bring about a negative feeling.
just BE...

...fresh air flows in...

today outside
today inside
image reflected from an old mirror
every time you reject
a weak or negative thought
because it's unworthy of you,
you create space for something better.
this process operates like breathing-
fresh air flows in
automatically to replace the stale
air you breathe out.
there can be no life
where there's no breath:
apply this logic to your inner life too,
and feel yourself thoroughly refreshed.
~1,001 ways to live in the moment

i was up in time
to catch
some sun.
it is not looking
like we will
have much today.
today's list:
basketball
groceries
more basketball.
taxes.

homemade pizza.

what is your weekend looking like?

...2.6.11...

"one way to open your eyes is to ask yourself,
'what if i had never seen this before?
what if i knew i would never see it again?'”
Rachel Carson

snow fell off the roof...hope the door faired better
than the flag.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you NOT to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightening about shrinking
so that other people won't feel
unsure around you.
We were born to make manifest
the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
As we let our own Light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
 our presence automatically liberates others.
~marianne williamson

...can't judge the depth...

a major challenge
might seem like a river in flood
that blocks your path.
you can't judge the depth
of the water,
so you stand there,
panicked,
wondering what to do.
don't just charge in.
instead,
spend a few minutes
looking carefully,
to see whether stepping stones
are visible just below the water's surface.
often they are.
pick your way calmly and carefully.
the obstacles may be less formidable
than you feared.
~1,001 ways to live in the moment

this week we had
"floods" of snow.
the knot on this fence
is long hidden.
received around 12"
in a very short amount of time.
ah winter.
you are not pretty.
but...
shadows.
we still have shadows.
please join us.
